Learn how to unlock bigger peg mosaics with FantaColor Modular 2. This guide covers connecting pegboards, using the booklet, and avoiding common setup mistakes.

Quick answer

FantaColor Modular 2 lets you join two pegboards to build large, colorful mosaics. Follow the steps below to connect the boards, lock them securely, and start creating your own designs or copying the included models.

Why expand your peg set?

A single pegboard is great for small patterns, but many kids want to create bigger pictures. The Modular 2 system lets you combine two boards horizontally or vertically, doubling your creative space without needing a larger table.

One trade-off: the connected boards are slightly less portable than a single board. Plan to use it on a flat, stable surface to keep the pegs from popping out during play.

What you get in the box

FantaColor Modular 2 includes two pegboards, red connectors, a selection of colorful pegs, and a booklet with model pictures. The connectors are specific to this system and are not interchangeable with other peg toys.

If you already own other FantaColor peg sets, you can mix and match the pegs. The boards themselves are designed only for Modular 2 – standard FantaColor boards do not have the locking slots.

How to set up FantaColor Modular 2

  1. 1. Align the two pegboards: Place the two pegboards side by side on a flat surface. Decide whether you want a horizontal (side-by-side) or vertical (top-to-bottom) layout. The boards have matching slots along the edges. Make sure the slots face each other exactly. A common mistake is misaligning the boards, which prevents the connectors from sliding in.
  2. 2. Insert the red connectors: Take one red connector and slide it into the aligned slots at the top or left edge. Press firmly until it clicks into place. Repeat for the remaining connectors along the seam. Use all supplied connectors for a secure lock. If a connector feels loose, remove it and check that the boards are flush. Forcing it can damage the plastic.
  3. 3. Start creating your mosaic: Choose pegs of your preferred colors and insert them into the pegboard holes. You can follow a model picture from the booklet or invent your own design. The connected board gives you a larger canvas for patterns like animals, flowers, or geometric shapes. Press pegs straight down to avoid bending them. If a peg is hard to insert, try a different hole – the boards have consistent spacing, but occasional tight spots are normal.
  4. 4. Disassemble for storage: When playtime is over, remove all pegs first. Then gently pull the red connectors out of the slots. The boards separate easily and can be stored flat. Keep the connectors in a small bag so they don't get lost. Never try to separate the boards while pegs are still inserted – this can snap the pegs or loosen the connectors.
